American Law Library
In 1998, President Jiang Zemin and President Bill Clinton agreed to a "Presidential Rule of Law Initiative" to expand bilateral cooperation in the field of law. In 2000, the Public Affairs Section of the American Embassy and the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPSL) Publishing House -- as part of the Embassy's China Book Translation Program -- agreed to work towards translating 100 American law textbooks into Chinese and publishing Chinese editions. The embassy and the CPUSL Publishing House have also co-sponsored two conferences for legal translation experts.
Below are the titles of the "American Law Library" series that have been published to date. The books are excellent for undergraduate and graduate level law classes. Currently, books can be purchased for 15-150 RMB, depending on the title. Please click on each title to access more information on how to order each textbook or go to the CPUSL Publishing House website at http://www.cuplpress.com/ to order books.
Professors and students are also invited to preview books at the U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai’s Information Resources Center. The Information Resource Center has one copy of each translated law book available for use at our center for reference purposes only. Please contact the Information Resource Center at ShanghaiIRC@state.gov or by telephone at (021) 6279-7662 to make an appointment to visit our center.
