If you hold a passport from a country besides China, be sure to check the website of the U.S. Embassy in that country for visa information specific to your nationality. A full list of U.S. Embassy websites can be found at http://usembassy.state.gov/. If you do not have long term status in China (e.g. you are on a tourist or business investigation visa), the best place to apply for a visa is in your home country. U.S. visa law is the same around the world and we give applicants without a long term, established connection to the Shanghai consular district can expect to receive extra scrutiny during the interview.  If you have a work or residence permit for China and would like more information about applying for a U.S. visa in Shanghai, click here.
