Unit Non-Immigrant Visas Services

Hours:

  • Non-immigrant visa business hours:
    Monday-Friday by appointment only.  To make an appointment, contact the visa information call center.
  • We are closed on Holidays and in-service days

Visa Questions:

We regret we cannot answer questions regarding visas by telephone. For additional information please consult the Department of State's Consular Affairs Web Page or contact the visa information call center.  

Fax Number:

We regret that we cannot respond to individual requests for information, nor can we accept materials for an interview by fax. The proper time to present information regarding an application is at the time of the interview. Please note that information regarding a future application sent ahead of time will not be kept.

The Non-immigrant Visa Services and American Citizen Services Sections are located on the 8th floor, Westgate Mall, 1038 West Nanjing Road.  Anything mailed or otherwise delivered to the Consular Section MUST be sent to the main consulate general compound at 1469 Central Huaihai Road (Huaihai Zhong Lu), Shanghai, China 200031.

American Citizen Services

  • American citizen services:
    Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 11:30 am and from 1:30 pm until 3:30 pm, except on Tuesday afternoons. ACS is closed on Tuesday afternoons and all day on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Telephone for American citizen services:  During normal business hours please call: (86-21) 3217-4650. For after hours emergencies only, please phone:(86-21) 6433-3936.
  • Fax number: Please send information by fax to (86-21) 6217-2071.  This fax is for contacting the American Citizen Services Office only.
  • E-mail address: ShanghaiACS@state.govThis email address is for issues regarding American Citizen Services only

American citizens may contact ShanghaiNIV@state.gov with general questions about visas for Chinese citizens. Alternatively, you may attend our weekly visa hour held Tuesdays in the American Citizen Services waiting room from 3:30 pm-4:30 pm.  Please arrive by 3:30 p.m. and bring your U.S. passport to ensure you are able to enter the consular section.  Unfortunately, only American Citizens will be able to participate in our weekly visa hour.  Before contacting us, please review this website and associated links for relevant information.  We are constantly updating the site with our frequently asked questions, and new information.
