"English Teaching Forum" is a quarterly journal published by the U.S. Department of State for teachers of English as a foreign or second language.  Most of the authors published in ETForum are classroom teachers.  Over 60,000 copies of ETForum in print format are distributed to over 100 countries.  ETForum online currently has issues available from 1993-2003.

The two electronic journals, "Language and civil society" and "Language and life sciences," offer teachers of English as a foreign language background reading on these topics, classroom-ready activities, and related resources and references.

The "Language and civil society" journal contains volumes on civic education, business ethics, environmental education, and peace education.  Related articles from "English Teaching Forum" complete the journal.

"Language and life sciences: advances in biotechnology" journal contains chapters on: mapping the human genome, controversial issues in gene research, cloning, biotechnology and crop engineering, and drugs of the future.

This website provides a current list of State Dept. Office of English Language Programs publications.

"Teaching Pragmatics" is the first book published exclusively online by the Office of English Language Programs.  "Teaching Pragmatics" is a collection of 25 lessons to instruct English language students on the use of socially appropriate language in a variety of informal and formal situations.

In conjunction with the authors (Mark Warschauer, Heidi Shetzer, and Christine Meloni) and TESOL, chapter 7 of this Office of English Language Programs publication is available online. This handout provides materials for teacher trainers to use in conducting workshops on teaching techniques in the use of dictation.

This bibliography was compiled by professors from the Applied Linguistics faculty at Northern Arizona University and is available for downloading in three different formats (html, Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF).

    B) Africa Online home page:  http://aei.uoregon.edu/safrica/index.htm

This 10-week online course, entitled "English Language Education: Using Web Resources to Develop Classroom Content-based materials," ran from October-December, 2001.  This course highlighted HIV/AIDS awareness, entrepreneurship and civics education and is a rich resource that can be readily adapted for other teaching environments.

This collection of materials gives teachers practice in using English through the discussion of the realities of a civil society -- respecting the rights of others, the benefits and responsibilities of free speech, and values clarification.

(4) Website with Online Resource Links and Materials: http://oelp.uoregon.edu/

The Online English Language Center site--developed from a grant from the Office of English Language Programs--provides a variety of links to materials and resources.  The site is divided into sections: learning English; teaching English; popular topics (American Studies: literature, society, and culture; business English and entrepreneurship; civic education; HIV-AIDS curriculum and information) and Office of English Language Programs publications.  The site was developed by Prof. Leslie Opp-Beckman, a leading expert in the field of computer aided language learning (call).
