Tips for Travelers to China

The U.S. government does not control the issuance of Chinese visas or Chinese residency permits. For information on chinese visa/residency requirements click here.

If you are an American Citizen or United States Legal Permanent Resident who will be in traveling or residing in China, several helpful tips can be found by visiting the State Department’s Consular Affairs web site at http://www.travel.state.gov/travel/tips/tips_1232.html.

In addition, the China Information Sheet provides detailed information about China and issues you may face as an American residing in or visiting China. The China Information Sheet is located at http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1089.html.

Current warden messages released by the American Citizen Services Section of the U.S. Consulate General Shanghai are available on our warden information page.  If you are and American citizen visiting or living in East China, you can also recieve warden messages and other important information by registering with the Consulate.
